A fact finding mission to Parkside, home of the Magpies of Long Sutton last weekend for the young Pedlar squad. A dream start to calm nerves settle feelings with a penalty awarded for a push in the box, Callum Howe converting with confidence. The home-side equalising in the twentieth minute with a very flukey goal in million for it's scorer. A second coming from a keeping error five minutes later, the ball crossed from the left hand side should have been cleared to safety but fumbled and gifted for a simple finish. A third in the half, fortunate for the Magpies, very possibly a mis-hit cross finding the top right hand corner, the player delivering, happy to take the accolade. The Pedlars kept resilient and worked a well get a second before half-time, patient build up with a perfectly weighted left sided cross met by the head of Howe at the far right post, safely deposited into the net.
A more peaceful second half, no doubt the heat affecting both sides. Sutton getting a forth to seal the game but on reflection, a worthwhile run-out for both sides in their seasons preparation.
Next weekend the Pedlars travel south to the 'Eagles' of Letchworth Garden City for the return match in the 'Offside Trust Cup', the first meeting of the teams last pre-season saw the Eagles take home the spoils, the Pedlars looking to balance the record books in this competition promoting the the importance of this worthy cause.
Midweek the Reserves started their pre-season preparation with a four one victory over North West Norfolk Terrington Tigers. Friday evening they welcome Castle Acre Swifts to the 'Uncle Luke's Stadium'. They then travel to Marshlands the following Wednesday.
Next Tuesday, the Under 18's play Lakenheath at Shoemakers Lane in the run-up to their season start.
Thursday evening (2407/25) the Pedlars hold their Annual General Meeting, commencing at 7.30pm at the Clubhouse. The AGM originally postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
