1st League Fixture

A disappointing result for our first away fixture which did not necessarily reflect the true flow of the game. Whitton kicked downhill in the first half and were awarded a corner in the first minute, easily dealt with, from which Swaffahm broke and Richard Cornwell had a shot parried for a corner at the other end. In the 11th minute Paul Shafer headed over the Whitton bar.The stalemate was broken in the 23rd min. when a poorly defended free kick on the right hand side, was punched into his own net by keeper Lee Brookes.
In the 35th min. a movement between Matt Kenny and Paul Shafer resulted in the keeper tipping the the ball over the bar for an excellent stop, the resultant corner was cleared.
Two mins. later Swaffham won corners from either side but both were dealt with by the Whitton defence.
Just before half time the keeper again beat away a powerful shot from Mat Kenny.
The second half started promisingly with Paul Shafer having a shot saved and then hitting the rebound over the bar and in the 58 min Shafer set up a volleying opportunity for Ben Russell.
The 64 min saw Whitton break up the right wing and the resulting excellent cross saw Jermaine Harewood score with a fine header.
Further opportunities fell to Swaffham but to no avail
Scott Voutt and Keith Polski replaced Lewis Hemeter and David Spalding in the 70 min.
Steve Thompson had a superb header punched clear by the Whitton goalkeeper.
Whitton's 3rd came in the 89th min with a long punted clearance up field that evaded the visitors defence and sub O'Neill vollied past Lee Brookes.
