Halstead Town 1 Swaffham Town 1
A depleted Swaffham squad made the trip to Rosemary Lane with the intention of completing the league double over Halstead. A nervous start for the Pedlars, a rare mistake by Captain Matthew Parkinson, the home-side centre forward running through but his effort crossing the face of the goal unchallenged. Once settled Swaffham started to produce their own chances, Jack Redhead and Alex Vincent both shooting high and wide of target. Halstead got their break in the 30th minute, a goalmouth scramble eventually seeing the number 11 score. They applied more pressure up to half time but great defending by Loui Hockton, Richard Cornwall, Liam Reed and Matty Parkinson kept the game alive.
The second half saw efforts by both sides but few directly on goal, the best opportunity falling to Redhead narrowly missing the right hand post. As the clock ticked Halstead attempted to park the bus. Swaffham substitutes George Hutton and Jordan Cantwell both making their Thurlow Nunn debut's, replacing David Jackson and Will O'Brien, bringing fresh legs and an injection of youth into the team. The gamble paid off with Hutton heading home from a Redhead free-kick in the last minute of normal time. The Pedlars deservedly salvaging a point from the tie.
A great result for the Reserves, beating Yarmouth's Bohemians 5-0 in their Norfolk County Junior Cup match, Luke Askew bagging four of the five! A high scoring game for the 'A' Team, playing their first home game of the season, a 4-4 draw with Dereham Town 'A'.
Next Saturday the Pedlars compete in the F.A. Carlsberg Vase, First Round Proper. We welcome Northampton's, Desborough Town to Shoemakers Lane for a 3pm kick off. The visitors play in the United Couties League Premier Division and the tie has all of the ingredients for a fantastic afternoon of sport. Please come and support your local football team.
