Swaffham go out of the F.A. Vase in drastic fashion, but in no disgrace.

Swaffham Vase dreams shattered

In a result which didn't reflect the game in any way, the Pedlars must leave their F.A. Vase dreams for another season. Conditions for football were perfect, the efforts by the groundstaff, the 'Black and White Barrows' contributing to the occasion.
Northampton based visitors, Desborough Town took the spoils but the true football remained at Shoemakers Lane. Desborough took the lead after 25 minutes against the run of play, Swaffham failing to take the initiative early on. The equaliser looked just around the corner but Desborough held on until half time.
A minute into the second half they scored their second but hope still remained woth a reasonable target to come back from. The visitors scored numbers 3 and 4 on the hour and then two minutes later. The Pedlars threw all they could into the match but their efforts came to no avail. Pushing forward left their defence vulnerable and number five came in the 70th minute, an unfortunate own goal. The final goal was scored two minutes into injury time and added no relevence to the score.
It was encouraging to note that during the second half, Swaffham fielded three under 18 players, all of which held their own and did not look out of place or intimidated by their higher ranked opposition. A great advert for what the Club are aspiring to for the future. Many thanks to all that support the Club, in particular Narford Scaffolding, The George Hotel, Greyhound Inn, Pedlars Hall Cafe and The Conservative Club, without their help we would not be able to provide sport at this level in the community.

Another busy week ahead, the second quarter final of the Hospital Cup this Wednesday, Necton and Narborough go head to head, kick off 7.30pm. Last week Castle Acre eventually edged a 3-2 victory over Litcham after extra time.
Thursday the Under 18's are at home to Wisbech St. Mary kick off 7.45pm.
