A fine win in difficult conditions sends the pedlars through in the cup

Goals galore for Swaffham Town

It was billed as being a thrilling meeting and those that braved the cold?were treated to a fine display of football by both teams in this?eight goal extravaganza !
The early pressure came from the homeside, Joe Jackson and Alex Vincent?showing pace on the wings, Rory Harper and Richard Cornwall combining well, but efforts?missing the mark.? Even Dean Miller rising to meet a Jack Redhead free kick, saw his header passing narrowly wide of the post.? Against the flow of play, in the 19th minute,?Team Bury broke through the right hand side, the cross met by number 7 Joseph Yaxley, to slot the ball home in the right-hand bottom corner.? Three minutes later, the Pedlars still in shock, Yaxley clipped the ball over?Scott Cruickshank to make it 2-0.? On the half hour, Bury were awarded a penalty, the foul accepted but the location as to whether in or out of the area, dubious.? Yaxley bagged his hat-trick from the spot.? Five minutes from half time, the Pedlars were awarded a penalty which Jack Redhead smashed home into the roof of the net.? Two minutes later, giving?Swaffham a vital lifeline, Jackson played Harper through, who drilled the ball from 20 yards, the visiting keeper having?no chance.
I can't imagine the Paul Hunt team talk during the recess, but assume it must have been inspiring.? With all to play for, the Pedlars squeezed the visiting side, out running and out playing them in every zone of the pitch.? The pressure paid off in the 60th minute, the equaliser from the head of Lee Woolmore, his first this season.? The prospect of extra time looming, the balance switched to Swaffham's advantage in the eightieth minute.? Great control from Harper, playing in Vincent, to lash the ball into the bottom corner.? The final goal came from an 89th minute penalty, the number five seeing red for a second yellow card.? Redhead getting his second of the day.? The result deserved, the Pedlars will meet Brightlingsea Regent at Shoemakers Lane on Saturday 9 February in the next round.
More thrills, twists and turns for the other senior teams, the Reserves away to Buxton in the County Junior Cup, coming from 3-1 down to drawing 4-4 after normal time and then getting two goals in extra time, winners at 6-4.? Stephen Aspery getting a hat-trick, George Hutton, James Buhlemann and Tom Bailey the others.??
The 'A' Team away to Yaxham, coming back from being 4-1 down to 5-4 victors !? Four goals from Ryan Skeet, Blake Stangroome the other.
Next Saturday, the First Team return to League Competition, Debenham L.C. the visitors to Shoemakers Lane, 3pm kick off.
The Reserves are away to Thorpe Village, the 'A' Team meet Yaxham at home in the Sound & Vision Junior League Cup, both fixtures
