Two teams provide an excellent game in very difficult conditions

Swaffham Town 4 Team Bury 1

An outstanding 25 goals in 5 matches has seen the Pedlars elevated to third position in the Thurlow Nunn First Division. Under difficult conditions, the Pedlars took the lead against visiting Team Bury in the eleventh minute. A great run by Alex Vincent up the left wing, a low driven cross met by a Bury defender to beat his own keeper. Great set plays delivered by Jack Redhead saw Rory Harper head narrowly just past the post and then in the 27th minute, his just deserves, powering another header home from ten yards.Good inter-action between Matthew Parkinson and Joe Jackson caused the Bury defence further trouble but the killer blow was lacking. Swaffham's third came just before half time, Parkinson playing in Richard Cornwall who battled in to retain the ball, setting Vincent free to cross, Jackson with a clinical finish.
The Pedlars kept the pressure up on the restart, Vincent narrowly missing and Harper denied after being set through by Parkinson, by the linesman's flag. The visitors got back into the game in the 62nd minute, a corner cleared by Jackson, the second ball returned to the area where a scamble was cleared by Michael Thompson, but the Bury number 7 picked up the loose ball and chipped Scott Cruickshank to make it 3-1. A crucial time for the homesidethey had to dig in and retain their lead. Cornwall was replaced by Ashley St. John in the 75th minute in order to rest after taking a knock in the game. Harper brought down on the edge of the box, the resulting free kick taken by Jackson, gathered by the keeper. Swaffham's final goal came in the 87th minute, the ball won in midfield, St. John setting Vincent free, slotting the ball across the keeper to net in the bottom right hand corner.
