Early Senior Cup exit for Pedlars
The Pedlars exited the Norfolk County Senior Cup at the first hurdle, Downham gaining revenge for their heavy league defeat at the start of the season. As many local derby's, the hype and anticipation of a great game proved disappointing, neither side demonstrating any great desire to take the game by the throat. The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute, a strike of a lifetime from number 10, Sam Hanslip. His volley from 30 yards straight to the top right hand corner, keeper Scott Cruikshank having no chance.
Few opportunities on goal for Swaffham, Will O'Brien and Rory Harper coming closest, but only O'Brien's effort forcing the keeper to make a save. To add to frustration, with 20 minutes to go and Swaffham rallying their game, Captain, Dean Miller seeing red for a second yellow card, a dubious hand ball decision in the middle of the park!
Better fortune for the Reserves, winning 2-0 away to Blofield United Reserves, Issac Catchpole and Luke Askew netting for the Pedlars. The 'A' Team drawing 2-2 at home to Bridgham United, Blake Stangroome bagging both goals.
Swaffham play again this Tuesday evening, Kirkley and Pakefield the visitors to Shoemakers Lane for the First Round of the Red Insure League Cup, kick off 7.45pm.
Next Saturday, the First Team head south to Essex to bottom of the league Cornard United. The Reserves progress in the County Junior Cup, away to Buxton, kick off 1.45pm. The 'A' Team the only side at Shoemakers Lane, hosting North Elmham, k/o 2pm.
