Swaffham Pedlars routed the Rangers of Deeping with 5 goals

The Town go marching on.............Deeping Rangers 2 Swaffham Town 5

Disappointment for central mid-fielder MikeyThompson, injured in the warm-up prior to the game on Saturday, but his team mates kept the dream alive by ensuring a place in the next round of the FA Vase. Deeping Rangers, at the time flying high in the United Counties League and a step higher than the Pedlars, had a dream start by opening the scoring in the eighth minute, a well rehearsed set piece, the header leaving keeper Lee Brooks with no chance. The Pedlars settled and equallised six minutes later, the hosts assisting with an own goal.Rangers were further shocked with seven minutes to go in the half when Dan Buhlemann put Swaffham in front, setting an interesting agenda for the half time team talks!
Rangers were further shocked four minutes into the second half, Matthew Prudence finding the net and giving the Town a comfortable cushion. The tempo from Deeping crept up a notch and Swaffham absorbed the relentless pressure, the back four and keeper holding strong.Rangers came one back in the 68th minute but the two goal lead was restored when Rory Harper found the net in the 74th minute. To add insult to injury, Alex Vincent made it five for the Pedlars, bursting down the right and lashing in with a first time volley from 20 yards, into the top corner of the net, keeper Brooks with the assist, the goal of the game by far, and the Vinny somersault came out. A late appearance from the bench by Swaffham legend Lewis Hemeter,to see the dying minutes out, the Pedlars, playing the better football by a long way, deservably progressing into the next round.

The team would like to say many thanks to our travelling supporters for the enthusiasm and encouragement on the day, it is very much appreciated and shows that we can all contribute to the community spirit that as a Club we are trying to nurture.
