Nick castellan double

A great week for the Pedlars

A good point away at Ely City on Tuesday, despite loosing keeper Dan Gentry in the warm up. The two best goals of the evening from Alex Vincent and Ben Champion. Vincent taking the lead, Champion playing through for Vincent to first time strike from eighteen yards across the keeper into the bottom right hand side corner. Vincent then assisting Champion a minute into the second half to regain the lead, a thumping shot from sixteen yards. Ely equalised in the last minute of the game, the Robins always looking as though they were going to get back into it.
Better form on Saturday at the Hawthorns, home of sixth place Stanway Rovers. A welcome return to Swaffham for Joe Jackson, his registration to the Pedlars completed as the registration window closed for the season. Also joining the squad, Tom Kendrick, new to the area but familiar to key centre back Danny Tindall. An even first half with both sides having opportunities, including the home side rattling the cross bar from thirty yards ! An incident worth of mentioning in the first half, the Stanway centre forward who was prolific in scoring at Shoemakers Lane, lucky to stay on the pitch for kicking out at Mark Allibone whilst he was on the ground. A fortunate yellow card which was no doubt the main talking point between the Assessor who was in attendance and the Referee !
Swaffham's hard work finally paid off three minutes into the second half, Jackson playing in a low ball from the right hand side, Vincent getting a flick on to nutmeg the keeper and Nick Castellan making sure the ball crossed the line with a knock in from a yard. Castellan made in two in the fifty ninth minute firing home from twelve yards across the box into the left hand corner. The Pedlars playing the far better football and thoroughly deserving the three points.
Next weekend they return to the A12 for a road trip to Brantham Athletic. Lets hope this point gaining form continues and the old 'Batman and Robin' combination of Jackson and Vincent flourishes to be the deadly duo they used to be.
The run of good luck not however with the Reserves. Despite holding the Horsford goal under siege, the Pedlars unlucky to go down two one. Alan Woodcock getting the Swaffham goal. Next weekend they are away to Gayton United.
The Under 18's were in action last Monday, they dropped all three points in their title race, going down 2-1 to Fakenham Town at Clipbush Park. Matthew Blackford netting for the Pedlars. This Thursday coming they travel to the FDC at Bowthorpe to face Easton & Otley College.
The Veterans are in action away to Cringleford. A tough season for the Vets but encouraging to know that the Norfolk FA Veterans League is the only growing league in the County.
