The Pedlars travelled to Brewers Green Lane, Diss for what was always going to be a hard fixture, Diss starting the day 2nd in the Ridgeons First Division. Manager Paul Hunt travelled further than most, due to his poor sense of direction!
Early pressure by the home side was easily mopped up by the Swaffham defence and a counter attack in the 9th minute saw Joe Jackson shoot wide and a minute later following impressive play to build to the penalty area, Craig Burton shooting over. The Swaffham defence watched on in the 19th minute, superb footwork by Diss number 7, Jorden Roecastle saw him beating three players including keeper, Dean Mayes to score the homeside opener. Not detered the visitors knuckled down and opportunities in the 25th and 26th minute again came close, Jackson the striker of each. Mayes made a fine save from Roecastle and set a break away attack by Jackson. Good play between him and Burton, Craig's final shot straight into the arms of the keeper. An out of the ordinary mistake by Matthew Parkinson in the middle of the field saw centre forward, Hooks get the second in the 40th minute. Mayes again in the thick of things just before the break, firstly saving for a corner and then collecting the resultant cross.
Everyone knew that whichever team scored the third goal would probably see the way that the match was going to finish. It came in the 56th minute, Roecastle breaking down the right hand side, whipping in a cross for number 11 to volley in. Substitute Will O'Brien came close to getting a consulation goal but his effort sailed just over the bar. The defeat was disappointing but it is exciting to see the young Swaffham Team growing in confidence and demonstrating some fine football talent. I am sure greater things are to come this season.
