Swaffham were dealt a sharp awakening on Saturday, the visiting Hares hitting the post in the fourth minute. Craig Burton and Will O'Brien countered and provided an opportunity for Jack Webber, who's lob cleared the bar. Dean Mayes again came to the Pedlars rescue in the 15th minute, pushing around the post, the March centre forward breaking free through the defence.
Disappointment in the 21st minute, Jack Webber returning from injury, pulling his hamstring replaced by Robert Powley. Webber now doubtful for the next two to three weeks. A couple of further chances saw good play betweem Craig Burton and Joe Jackson, but the resultant volley sailing over the bar. Just before the half time whistle, a Jackson corner was defended, the clearance blocked by Matthew Parkinson, the rebound going for a corner. Nil all at half time.
Early pressure again in the second half saw Mayes saving for a corner, the delivery needing pushing over for a second. The only early Swaffham chance falling to Will O'Brien. The deadlock was broken in the 56th minute, a March free kick met brilliantly by an over head kick by number 7, Escozcio, Mayes standing no chance. Swaffham still in shock, Escozcio bagged his second in the 62nd minute, breaking through defence to slot home past Mayes. Parkinson substituted by Nathan Cross for a groin strain, during the break in play.
Whichever team scored the third goal would surely decide how the match would finish. Unfortunately, with the exception of an effort by O'Brien, skillfully pushed over by our old friend, Lee Brookes, it never looked to be going Swaffham's way. The final damage was done in the 88th and 90th minutes, Captain Luke Pepper and Ash Brand adding their names to the result sheet.
For the first time this season, the Pedlars put in a disappointing performance, still waiting for players to return from injury and those who sustained injury at this fixture are no excuses
