Playing and weather conditions were perfect on Saturday providing the opportunity for Paul Hunt's Pedlars to deliver on the promise that they have shown over the past weeks. Aaron Clifford and Will O'Brien teaming up well in the opening twenty minutes. Clifford setting O'Brien to shoot over from twenty five yards, then O'Brien serving a precision free kick, met well by the head of Clifford, the keeper having to make a brilliant save. The midfield combination of Scott Voutt, Jake Platten and Nathan Cross built strong chances moving forward with shots from Voutt and Platten saved and just wide respectively. Halstead had their say in the game, but the Pedlars defence held strong. No goals at half time but the atmosphere was electric and goals were surely on the menu.
Jack Redhead replaced Jake Platten in the 53rd minute. The deadlock finally broken in the 57th minute, Joe Jackson making a run down the right-hand wing, beating one and cutting in to strike across the goal face, slotting the ball in at the far post. Lewis hemeter made his season debut, replacing Daren Hockton, finally returning after his injury. The Pedlars second came with twenty minutes to go, from a free kick taken by Redhead, flicked on by Clifford and crossing the line before the following in, David Spalding could reach it. The final action of the day came in the 85th minute, a quality ball into the box by Hemeter, finding Clifford the resulting shot requiring a fine save by the Halstead keeper. A well earned three points for the home side.
The Club would like to express it's thanks to those who worked hard this week to prepare the pitch following the dreadful weather this week, their efforts were clear to be seen and the Staff at the George Hotel for their continued support by provision of the after match food.
