Pedlars unlucky against Goddie

Swaffham Town 2 Godmanchester Rovers 2

Honours even at Shoemakers Lane Saturday, Godmanchester Rovers sharing the points with the Pedlars. An encouraging start for the home side, awarded an indiect free kick in the 10th minute for a back pass but the defensive wall beat the ball away. Jack Redhead's flaoted free kick taken by the keeper in the twelth. Good inter-play by Richard Cornwall and Jake Platten up front, Platten's shot easily gathered by the keeper. The deadlock broken in the 31st minute, Will O'Brien with a free kick deep in the Godmanchester half, the kick beaten away, Joe Jackson' s volley, too hot for the keeper, his fumble carrying the ball into the back of the net. A further chance in the 37th minute, Scott Voutt meeting a Jackson corner, but penalised for holding the defender down. The visitors equalised on the stroke of half time, keeper Dean Mayes bringing down the number six, the penalty converted by the centre forward.
Mayes repaid his mistake by pulling off a fine save early in the second half, a long through ball picked up be the number nine, Mayes deflecting the shot wide. Rovers gathered momentum but the Pedlars back four stood strong, James Miller and Dwayne Hockton holding a tight line. An opportunity missed by Jackson in the 55th minute, breaking through the Godmanchester defence, his shot wide of the mark. Nathan Cross and Mehdi Mehrpour replaced O'Brien and Platten respectively to bring some fresh pace into the Swaffham game. A further breakthrough came in the 77th minute, a header won by Cornwall leaving Jackson one-on-one to net for his second. Two minutes later the visitors balanced the books, a long throw, assisted by a header for the number ten to finish. A couple of heart in mouth moments in the closing minutes, the visitors coming close to spoiling the afternoon, David Spalding and Ben Durrent standing firm to block the Rovers attack.
Next Saturday the Pedlars travel to Essex for their meeting with Halstead, kick off 3pm and then entertain Thetford Town at home Easter Monday, in their final Ridgeons fixture off the season, kick off 12 o'clock (noon).
