Press squeeze Pedlars

Saturday's trip to top of the league, Cambridge University Press, saw a reverse. The Pedlars started strong and held their own, their clean on the ground passing game causing difficulties for the homeside. Fine play by Will O'Brien, combining well with Nathan Clarke and Joe Jackson causing the Cambridge defence concern. Solid defending by Skipper David Spalding and Matthew Parkinson contained attacking efforts but the deadlock was broken in the forty fourth minute, a ball clipped in from the edge of the box, headed in by the unmarked number 10 at the far post. Into injury time, the tie re-balanced when Mehdi Mehrpour broke free to run the ball 30 yards and slot past the keeper.
Press got their second in the 62nd minute, a ball that should have been cleared, lost and the price paid. Three minutes later, an out of the ordinary goalkeeping error, gifted the third. The forth came in the 73rd minute a further header from a well flighted cross.
Swaffham rallied and at no time let their heads go down, efforts from Mehrpour, substitute Sam Loomes and Nathan Cross could have squared the result. In the eighty seventh minute, a corner cleared by Cambridge, thundered in by James Miller saw the keeper flapping at the ball and fortunately for him it somehow passed over the bar. The resultant corner, Taken by Jackson hit the cross bar!
The Pedlars are away to Godmanchester Rovers next Saturday, 3pm kick off, the Reserves host Cromer Town Reserves, there second meeting in a week, a 2 - 2 draw last Saturday, kick off 2.30pm. The 'A' Team are also at home, Bridgham United the visitors to Shoemakers Lane, kick off 3pm.
