Goddie score 4

Third time - still unlucky!

For the third successive fixture, the Pedlars failed to bring home any points, defeated 4 - 1 on each occasion. Despite playing the more attractive football, Swaffham were bullied by Godmanchester Rovers, the home side scoring their first in the third minute, Swaffham caught napping early on as they have on previous occasions this season. The wake up call delivered, the work rate quickened and attempts from Nathan Clarke, Will O'Brien and Nathan Cross showing what Swaffham are capable of, but no reward. Rovers were tamed only threatening keeper Mayes, who saved well from the Godmanchester number 7. Centre forward Joe Jackson came close with two efforts, meeting a perfectly flighted ball from Cross with his head and a whipped shot from a David Spalding through ball, both just wide of the mark. In the final minute of the half, a bizzare goal mouth scramble, failed to level the scores, during which jackson hit the post and finally Mehdi Mehrpour, going for three goals in three starts, shot wide.
The second half saw further frustration, but a well deserved equaliser, headed in by Scott Voutt from an O'Brien free kick. Richard Cornwall made his return to the side, replacing Mehrpour and David Weaver-Pope replaced Matthew Parkinson, hamstring injury. Rovers second came in the 70th minute, a long ball into the box, beating all for the number 10 to net. With two minutes to go, Swaffham won a free kick thirty yards out, Mayes came up the pitch into the opposite area, won the head but didn't convert, the long ball clearance pounced on by the Godmanchester centre for their third. A free kick awarded for a back pass on the penalty spot, provided the forth goal, ironically a mis-hit by the divisions second highest goal scorer, Paul Bass, adding the jam to the topping.
The First Team are away to Cornard United this Saturday, 3pm kick off and then welcome Gorleston to Shoemakers Lane next Tuesday, 29 March k/o 7.45pm.
Also next Saturday, the Reserves play East Harling away, k/o 2.30pm and the 'A' Team are away to Cockers, 3pm k/o.
