Pedlars first three points at home.
Swaffham deservedly claimed all three points, beating a well rehearsed Cambridge University Press visiting team. Under the control of assistant Manager Lewis Hemeter, whilst Paul Hunt was on community football duties, the Pedlars displayed the traits that they have been working hard to achieve, close play football, shape and determination.
Tight defending stiffled early Press attempts, the first indications of Swaffhams intentions coming firstly from Aaron Clifford, winning a corner and Jack Redhead making the keeper beat a free kick wide. Luke Fell also troubled the Press defence, turning two defenders half an hour into the match, forcing the final challenge to be cleared for a corner. Jackson driving the corner from the left hand side, nobody able to connect to it.
The second half saw an early attempt hit the outside of the post, Jackson breaking free but unable to convert. Clifford coming close in the 55th minute, heading wide. Solid defending by Nathan Cross, Captain David Spalding and brothers Daren and Dwayne Hockton protected keeper Dean Mayes, leaving him to direct play from his position. The deadlock was finally broken in the 88th minute, Dwayne Hockton breaking forward, laying off to Will O'Brien, his freely floated cross met by Richard Cornwall to strike home.
It was good to see Club and First Team sponsor Phil Platten at Saturday's match, unavailable to Paul Hunt's squad this season because of an injury sustained whilst acting as Adam Archer's stunt double. Phil's son Jake, is still enjoying his trial period at Boston United and Swaffham Town wish him all the best of luck in his persuit of football higher in the pyrimid system.
