Long Melford 2 Swaffham Town 1
A disappointing performance from Paul Hunt's squad in a fairly uneventful match. A few individuals missing that may have bolstered the team but no excuses for not providing the entertaining football which Paul encourages. The visitors made the first chances, good interaction between Dwayne Hockton and Joe Jackson to see his driven cross from the left just out of reach from the charging Jordan Lown. Melford the first to score, a long ball to the right hand corner, played in for an easy header over the keeper. Swaffham came back at the homeside, Matthew Parkinson delivering a tremendous long throw into the Melford box, the defence beating it clear. The second blow came in the 24th minute, a long through ball beating the Pedlars defence, run onto by the centre forward, slotting past Dean Mayes. It seemed whatever Swaffham had to offer, was just not going to work, poor timing, miss control, the run of luck just wasn't with the Pedlars.
The second half started more promisingly, but early efforts were thwarted by the Melford defence before damage could be caused. Some light at the end of the tunnel, when substitute Shane Twaite-Smith converted following a Jack Redhead corner, met by Richard Cornwall and laid back to Twaite-Smith to drill home. A minute later, it was nearly two, another corner, but Twaite-Smith volleying over. A point nearly recouped in the last minute, Cornwall shooting just wide of the mark.
