Swaffham Town 1 Brightlingsea Regent 2

Regent returned to Essex claiming all three points and the double over Swaffham. Luck and fortune were not with the home side, returning to the squad, Aaron Clifford lasting only the first minute, having to retire through injury, Jake Platten stepping into his place. An early opportunity form a Scott Voutt header saw the visitors scramble a clearance of the line. Joe Jackson set free by Tom Grass, having his chipped shot gathered. Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead in the 24th minute, number 7 latching onto a through ball and his swerving shot beating keeper Dean Mayes. Constructive interaction form Platten, Jackson and Richard Cornwall kept the pressure on Brightlingsea but the equaliser did not materialise, Swaffham finishing the first half completely dominant.

Early in the second half, Regent were awarded a free kick just outside of the area, the decision was dubious and turned the game. The effort was successfully blocked by the Swaffham wall but the tone and manner of the game changed. Luke Fell came close to levelling in the 57th minute, connecting onto Jack Redhead's precision ball to volley over. The visitors awarded a penalty in the 67th minute for a hand ball, Mayes unable to get close to the well placed shot. Theonly consulation for the Pedlars, a goal in the 87th minute, a free kick on the edge of the Brightlingsea box, a rocket from Dean 'Rocky' Mayes, his first goal for the Club, a fantastic finish for any player but unexpected from the keeper!

An important feature of this fixture was that all of the substitutes on the 1st team Swaffham bench were 18 years of age or under, a true testament of the thinking of the 1st Team Manager and the excellent work being carried out by Graham, Aaron and Micky ''T''
Well done to all
