Whitton United 3 Swaffham Town 1
The start of a telling three weeks where the Pedlars meet the promotion contending sides in as many games, Whitton United keeping all three points on this occasion.
Difficult conditions, a heavy pitch and blustery winds not the best recipe for the style of football preferred by this young Swaffham squad, still missing several experienced old hands through injury. Two goals conceded in the first half through set pieces, left all to play for and potentially open for the second. Swaffham having opportunities but unable to punish the host's in the last twenty yards!
Whitton's experience showing through, they dug in for the second half, doing enough to hold back any Swaffham threat, and leaving the visitors to show the spectators how well they can move the ball around but stifling any threat on goal. The final damage in the 72nd minute, a clumsy challange gifting the homeside a penalty. Consolation in the 93rd minute, Alex Vincent showing how easy it is to score, his well placed shot leaving the keeper standing. Lessons to be learnt for the forthcoming fixtures, however an encouraging performance and much more anticipated from this young and developing team.
