A final result which didn't reflect the game, promotion contenders Godmanchester definately the better side on the day and deserved the three points, the result flattered their performance from a truely entertaining day.
Early nerves saw both sides need to bring out the best in their keepers, Alex Vincent coming close in the third minute, Dean 'Rocky' Mayes saving well to find the opposition off-side! A period of settled composure followed, each team carefully trying to break down the other. The deadlock broken in the 22nd minute, a strange attempted clearance from the Godmanchester centre defender, hitting the bar, Joe Jackson following up and shooting clear of the keeper. Two minutes later, an opportunity to double the gap, Toby Hilliard volleying wide after some great inter-play to set up the chance. The visitors levelled in the 39th minute, Will O'Brien harshly judged to concede a penalty, following a fantastic save by Mayes. A minute later, a second conceded, the centre forward lashing home from a long ball hoofed route one. The homeside absorbed further pressure until the break, Jack Redhead unlucky not to level, just before the whistle, his effort hit over following good build up play.
Rovers made it three, five minutes into the second half, a simple tap-in following a free kick, numbers four and five came in the 60th and 62nd minutes, slack marking and fortunate fall of the ball, punishing the Pedlars. Swaffham rallied in the last twenty minutes and tightened their game but never produced the final strike to convert the attempt. Godmanchester made it six in the fifth minute of added time, the damage already done.
