Town take the points in Essex

Three deserved points for the Pedlars on Saturday, away to Cornard United. An early corner taken by Jack Redhead and met by the head of Scott Voutt set the scene, his effort, just wide, skimming the left hand post. The home side awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, the strike skied, however, they took the early initiative in the eighth minute, a loose ball providing an easy chance from 12 yards, keeper Dean Mayes having no chance. From the restart, Swaffham rallied, Alex Vincent bringing out the best from the Cornard keeper, his shot pushed wide, the resulting corner taken by Redhead cancelled by a foul in the box. The equaliser came in the 17th minute, Joe Jackson battling to get the ball, taking on two and shooting from the edge of the box. Fine play between Jackson and Jake Platten to set Vincent free, skinning a defender, rounding the keeper to have his chip cleared from the line! Nathan Cross unlucky to have his shot blocked a minute later. The tide turned Swaffham's way in the 27th minute, Vincent finding the top right hand corner, only to have Cornard restore the balance a minute later. Ten minutes before the break, Jackson latched onto a loose ball from a failed corner clearance to bag his second from ten yards. The score should have been more before half time, Vincent and Jackson forcing great saves from the Cornard keeper, Voutt unlucky to have a 30 yard drive go wide of the post.

The second half continued in the same vein, an opportunity for Cross and Platten to show Manager Paul Hunt their ability. A good performance for match Captain, Matthew Parkinson, solid at the back and growing in confidence. The Pedlars should have capatilised on the score, but no further goals for the half. Good opportunities but fine keeping by good hands of the home keeper denying all further attempts. Mayes having a realatively quiet afternoon, demonstrating his ability, turning a goalward shot around the post.

The Pedlars have a home fixture next Saturday, Ipswich Wanderers the visitors, kick off 3pm.
