Swaffham Town started their season's campaign with a worthy three points. Visitors, Haverhill Borough certainly came to Shoemakers Lane on a mission and did all they could to bully and battle the Swaffham side. Alex Vincent opening his goal account in the fifth minute, a penalty following a clattering challenge on Joe Jackson, Vincent placing into the bottom right hand side. Haverhill looked strong on the attack, but Swaffham's defence under the watchful eye of Dean Miller stood strong.
It wasn't until the last two minutes of normal time did the Pedlars finally make sure of the three points. A bizarre goal, Swaffham awarded a free kick just inside their own half, the kick taken by new signing right back Ashley Page and flighted high to the edge of the oppositions box. A scramble by both sides players to meet the ball, the keeper screaming that it was his. The ball bounced missing all of the challenges, over the keeper and striking the back of the net ! Obviously carefully planned in pre-season training !!
Swaffham deserved the win and have a busy time ahead of them.
